the family gathering for Christmas dinner, advent challenge day 1! It’s December what the heck!

I’ve been quiet about the advent challenge because I ended up having such a surprisingly busy November I didn’t get a chance to draw anything, or even log on to Instagram for that matter! It’s such great things that I can’t wait to share with you, but for now I’m hoping I’ll be able to jump in the challenge and join in the merry making! I’m hosting it again this year along with some wonderful talented illustrators to spread the holiday cheer!

#inktober day 28, the fall of the house of usher

This one is special to me. I heard about this poe story when I was little because of that same Alan parsons album I mentioned in the last post. My dad still plays it all the time. So I knew the music before the story and my little brain would run wild envisioning the spooky mysterious tale behind those songs. It certainly lived up to my imaginings when I finally read it in high school. Not only did I cross paths with The Fall of the House of Usher that way, but little did I know that the illustration that always spooked me in one of my parents’ books was none other than the Harry Clarke illustration of that very same story. Boooooy that figure used to creep me out, so I had to give a little (or rather large) nod to his illustration in my drawing here.

And happily as things go, I made a bunch of discoveries while painting this. My work and I are friends again, what a tumultuous relationship we have.
